Joshua Cohn

Joshua Cohn founded CA Architects in 2004. During his +25 years of practice he has worked on a variety of challenging and award winning projects throughout the world; from small scale residential design work to large, mixed-use commercial projects and major international master plans. Josh has always considered design to be at the center of his approach to architecture; from the beginning programming and concept phase through the construction of the project, the focus is on bringing built form to the design vision. Josh’s work has been recognized with numerous awards and publications.

Previously, Josh was an associate with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill where he led the design efforts on a variety of award winning projects. As a senior associate with NBBJ Design, Josh led and managed design teams on a diverse range of challenging projects such as the Los Angeles Discovery Center, the Children Cancer Research Center at the University of Texas, the Bay Area Veterinary Hospital as well as a variety of large-scale international projects. The breadth and scope of design projects for which he has been directly responsible provides our clients with a vision that is both compelling and comprehensive.

Josh received both his Master of architecture and his Bachelor of Arts degrees in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. He was awarded the prestigious Eisner prize in architecture at UC Berkeley.

Josh is licensed in the state of California and NCARB and is a member of the AIA.

 

Philip Snyder

Philip Snyder brings more than twenty-five years of design and construction experience to CA Architects.

Formerly a senior technical architect with the internationally recognized design firm of Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM), Philip’s experience with both large-scale international projects as well as domestic projects both public and private, has been focused on how buildings are put together and the recognition that a building’s integrity begins with the structure and the exterior wall.

Philip was the senior technical design architect for numerous domestic and international projects. His projects include the new US Embassy complex in Beijing; the Sacramento State Library restoration and seismic and infrastructure upgrade; the Kuwait Police Academy, Dole Corporation’s World Headquarters, and the US Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit, San Francisco . Philip also led the technical and design coordination for the development of the award-winning Poly International Plaza project in Guangzhou, China, and the 500,000 square meter Kerry Center in Tianjin..

With proficiency in Type I, III and V construction types, and extensive experience in construction team interface and coordination, as well and field work and quality control, Philip is an important member of the CA project team.

Philip is licensed in the state of California and is a member of AIA.

 

Suemi Liu

Sumei Liu is an Electrical Engineer and Lighting Designer. She received her bachelor's degree from Harbin Institute of Technology and has received numerous awards for her design work. She is a Professor-level Senior Electrical Engineer, a National Registered Electrical Engineer, a Director of the Hainan Provincial Construction Survey and Design Association, Secretary-General of the Hainan Branch of the National Electrical Information Network, a Drawing Review Expert for Hainan Province, and Project Manager of Simay (Hainan) Lighting Design Company.

Over the last 20 years, Ms. Liu has gained extensive experience in electrical and lighting design. As part of the firm's senior management team, she has successfully managed a wide range of projects and multidisciplinary design teams, earning a reputation for her strong communication and coordination skills.

Her representative projects include the Tianjin Palace Hotel, Tianjin Causeway Bay Commercial Plaza, Howard Johnson Hotel Haikou, Hilton Guangzhou, Jianfengling Platinum Five-Star Hotel, Longmuwan Golf Hotel Apartments, Wenchang Platinum Hotel, and the Wanlilong Hotel in Hainan.
